PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION
Daily
Each school has a parent bulletin board for important program information.
Each child has a personal cubby and/or file folder which may also
contain newsletters, notes or notices. Parents are encouraged to check
each of these places daily.
Parent Meetings
Each school has several parent meetings and events each year. Some
of the events (such as the Halloween party) are designed specifically
for the children while others are more social in nature (e.g., pot
luck dinners). These provide the opportunity for the parents and staff
to get to know one another and for the parents of children in the
same class to meet one another. It is important for parents to participate
in these events as much as possible because it helps the child realize
that the parents value the school and what their child does there.
Staff Meetings
Regular staff meetings are an integrated part of the Open Door program.
These meetings provide staff with the time to discuss issues with
the program, to exchange information about the children and to receive
specialized training. Parents of children at the Open Door are needed
to provide coverage during these meetings. A staff member stays with
the children as well during these meetings to ensure that emergencies
are handled appropriately.
Conferences
We believe that there should be ample opportunities for parents to
talk to staff about your child. We welcome your visits and your comments.
It is advisable to have extended and/or serious discussions concerning
your child without the child or classmates present. We schedule conferences
either at the parent's or teacher's request, and we expect parents
to attend one conference near the end of each semester.
